Generally "quantity" is used, but here "quantities" is used and hence plular verb is needed.

A. discovering that the quantities of water displaced by an immersed object have - Correct
B. his discovery that by immersing objects in water, they displace quantities of - slight change in the meaning in this sentence. It says "Objects displace quantities".
C. discovering that the quantities of water displaced by an immersed object has - "Singular" noun
D. discovering the quantities of water displaced by an immersed object of - change in the meaning again. As per this choice, Archimedes discovered the quantities of water
E. his discovery of the fact that an object displaces water quantities, when immersed, of - this choice also changes the meaning and little awkward

Hi, thanks for your detailed explanation.
One follow-up question though : You mentioned that "his discovery of the fact is not a correct construct". What do you mean by that? Is it an idiom error? What is supposed to follow "Discovery" then?
Thanks !
