The highest common factor and least common multiple of two positive integers are 11 and 385 respectively. If one number lies between 75 and 125, then what is the value of that number ?
385 = 5*7*11

(A) 77 = 7*11 --> Right answer
(B) 88
(C) 99
(D) 110
(E) 115

for any two numbers:
HCF*LCM= product of two numbers
11*385= p1*p2
11*5*7*11 = p1*p2
the only number lying in between 75 and 125 are
11*11 = 121
7*11 =77
also if 121 (11*11) and 35(5*7) were two number HCF would be 1 and LCM would have been 121*35
only 77 and 55 satisfy HCF =11 and LCM = 385

thus two numbers are 55 and 77

A is 77 thus our answer

globaldesi,
Can you answer this:
If \(77\) is our aswer than the other number number is \(55.\)
Shouldn't the other number be between \(75 - 125 \)

What am I missing ?

Hi my understanding is that 55<75 -125
so 55 can not be the number

Got it thanks, I was reading the question wrong. Question says what is the value of that number, well as I was reading it as what is the value of the other number.

    ➡ Numbers are multiplies of their HCF

The highest common factor and least common multiple of two positive integers are 11 and 385

HCF = 11, LCM = 385 = 11*5*7

If one number lies between 75 and 125, then what is the value of that number

Since HCF is 11, so both the numbers will be multiples of the HCF (11)

Possible numbers whose HCF = 11 and LCM = 385 are

11 and 385
11*5 = 55 and 11*7 = 77

Only number between 75 and 125 is 77

So, Answer will be A.
Hope it helps!
