From INSEAD to Silicon Valley
When you think tech and entrepreneurship, few locations come to mind before Silicon Valley. Silicon Valley has become a hotbed of start-ups, venture capitalists, success stories, and innovation. At INSEAD, the thought follows that you can’t understand a place until you’ve been there. As a result, INSEAD has established a twice-yearly business trek to Silicon Valley, the mecca of tech and invention, led by Professor Dominique Trempont, INSEAD Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship and Family Enterprise.
The trek, which takes place during the break between class sessions, is ideal for students focused in entrepreneurship, venture capitalism, turnaround, and innovative companies. It is open to INSEAD MBA students from both Singapore and Fontainebleau campuses and runs alongside two other summertime Building Business modules: Building Business in China, and Building Business in India.
During the trek, INSEAD students meet and are taught by heads of some of the world’s most successful and renowned companies, including Apple Inc., Google, Intel, Yahoo!, Adobe Systems, and some of the thousands of other companies that have chosen the valley as their headquarters. The trek is divided into 20 sessions, each of which is taught by one of Silicon Valley’s key players, including CEOs and founders in areas such as Internet, e-commerce, biotechnology, and social media. During these sessions, students and lecturers will work through understanding the questions: “How do you build a business, what drives innovation, and how do you define success?” The lessons learned through this dynamic trek will allow students to apply theorems and ideas not only to business in the Silicon Valley, but anywhere throughout the world.
If this isn’t enough to drive you to Silicon Valley, simply consider the caliber and level of experience you will have from the person leading you through the tech; Professor Dominique Trempont serves on the Board of Directors of several multi-million dollar companies. He focuses on disruptive technologies, emerging markets, and Asian business. Not only is Professor Trempont a former CEO and an appointee of Steve Jobs; he also holds patents in artificial intelligence and is, himself, an alumni of INSEAD!
