The last digit of which one of the following results equals the last digit of the average of 3^2 and 5^2?

(A) The sum of 13 and 25
(B) The sum of 3 and 5^2
(C) The average of 13 and 25
(D) The average of 13 and 15
(E) The average of 19 and 35

The last digit of which one of the following results equals the last digit of the average of 3^2 and 5^2 = .5 (9+25) = .5*34 = 17. Last digit = 7?

(A) The sum of 13 and 25
13+25 =38 => Last digit = 8 <>7
(B) The sum of 3 and 5^2
3+25 =28 => Last digit = 8 <>7
(C) The average of 13 and 25
.5 (13+25) = .5 * 38 = 19. => Last digit=9 <>7
(D) The average of 13 and 15
.5(13+15) = .5*28 = 14 => Last digit = 4 <>7
(E) The average of 19 and 35
.5(19+35)=.5*54 = 27 => Last digit = 7

Solution

To find:
    • The option whose last digit equals the last digit of the average of 3^2 and 5^2

Approach and Working

Last digit of the average of 3^2 and 5^2 = Last digit of (9 + 25/ 2) = Last digit of (9 + 5/ 2)
The only option that gives the last digit of 2 numbers as 9 and 5 is option E.

Hence, the correct answer is E.
Correct answer: Option E

Solution

To find:
    • The last digit of which one of the following results equals the last digit of the average of \(3^2\) and \(5^2\)

Approach and Working Out:
    • Average of \(3^2 and 5^2 = \frac{(9 + 25)}{2} = \frac{34}{2} = 17\)
      o Last digit = 7

    • Option A: 13 + 25 = 38
    • Option B: 3 + 25 = 28
    • Option C: \(\frac{(13 + 25)}{2} = 19\)
    • Option D: \(\frac{(13 + 15)}{2} = 14\)
    • Option E: \(\frac{(19 + 35)}{2} = 27\)

Hence, the correct answer is Option E
