You can either work it out by algebraic equations or use the formula.
Height = side1*side2/hypotenuse = 3*4/5 = 12/5
If you work algebraically in gmat exam, you're doomed because solving the equations is gonna take you a lot of time.
suppose h=height , it falls on side=5, and divides it into x, 5-x
so h^2 = 3^2 -x^2
& h^2 = 4^2- (5-x)^2
Eliminate x and Solve for h, and you will get it = 12/5
IN EXAM Please DONT DO this way. Use the formula.

Putting a diagram for everyone to use the formulae. I spent quite some time deriving it today.
