Hi,

first to analyze the given data

Day 1:
Park Güell (Art Exhibit, Bicycle, 3 hours)
Catalunya en Miniatura (Entertainment, Walking, 1 hour)
Olympic Stadium (Sightseeing, Bicycle Tour, 4 hours)
Las Ramblas (Shopping, Bus Tour, 3 hours)

Activities schedules are for 11 hrs(3+1+4+3) so we cannot select a >1 hr activity
Also the activities scheduled already have walking for 1 hrs (Catalunya en Miniatura ) so activities selected can have at most 3 hrs walking
shopping activity required by mom has already been done.
Already involves a Art Exhibit visit so cannot have any art musuem visit

evaluating available options:
Mirador De Colon (Architecture, Walking, 1 hour)
Poble Espanyol (Shopping, Walking 2 hours) : >1 hr activity
Montserrat (Sightseeing, Bus Tour, 1 hours)
Museu Picasso (Art Museum, Walking, 2 hours) : >1 hr activity
Mar Bella (Ocean, Boat Outing, 4 hours) : >1 hr activity
La Pedrera (Art Museum, Walking, 1 hours) : 1 art exhibit activity already done on the day

Available options for Day 1
Mirador De Colon (Architecture, Walking, 1 hour)
Montserrat (Sightseeing, Bus Tour, 1 hours)

Day 2:
La Segrada Familia (Architecture, Walking, 3 hours)
Barri Gotico (Shopping, Bicycle Tour, 2 hours)
Aeri del Port (Sightseeing, Cable Car, 4 hours)
Nova Icària (Beach, Walking, 1 hour)

Activities schedules are for 10 hrs(3+2+4+1) so we cannot select any activity >2 hr
Also the activities scheduled already have walking for 4 hrs (La Segrada Familia and Nova Icària) so we cannot have any activity that involves walking
shopping activity required by mom has already been done .
The visit to Beach is scheduled so little brother's stipulation for beach visit on atleast one day is met.

evaluating available options:

Mirador De Colon (Architecture, Walking, 1 hour) : requires walking
Poble Espanyol (Shopping, Walking 2 hours) : requires walking

Montserrat (Sightseeing, Bus Tour, 1 hours)
Museu Picasso (Art Museum, Walking, 2 hours) : requires walking
Mar Bella (Ocean, Boat Outing, 4 hours) : >2 hr activity
La Pedrera (Art Museum, Walking, 1 hours) : requires walking

So for day 2 only available activity is :
Montserrat (Sightseeing, Bus Tour, 1 hours)

Coming back to Day 1 available options
Mirador De Colon (Architecture, Walking, 1 hour)
Montserrat (Sightseeing, Bus Tour, 1 hours) :Day 2 Activity

Hence
Day 1 activity is Mirador De Colon
and Day 2 activity is Montserrat

This was the logical conclusion i came up with but only problem is that With this answer only 3 art or Architecture visits are made not the 4 art or Architecture visits

Also the 4 art or Architecture visits cannot be achieved with given data as:
for Day1 art exhibit is already scheduled so we can have only architecture visits
for day 2 architecture visit is already scheduled and the listed art museum options both involve walking whereas the scheduled activities for day 2 already involve 4 hrs of walking so given the constraint that little brother cannot walk for at max 4 hrs we cannot select art museum visit for Day2

Kudos if you find the post helpful

Kindly ignore this post, it is a repetition of the above question~ BottomJee

The Marsden family is traveling through Europe on vacation and has two days to spend in Barcelona. While planning the daily activities, each family member has fairly strong preferences. Little brother asked to go to the beach at least one of the days, but cannot walk for more than 4 hours during a day. Mom loves shopping for local crafts so requested shopping activities on both days. Big sister will get credit for school so she must visit at least 4 art or architectural sites during the family’s visit, but Dad said he could not stand to visit more than one art exhibit on a single day. The family has 12 hours each day to devote to activities, and they have already decided on the following.

Day 1:

  • Park Gliell (Art Exhibit, Bicycle, 3 hours)
  • Catalunya en Miniatura (Entertainment, Walking, 1 hour)
  • Olympic Stadium (Sightseeing, Bicycle Tour, 4 hours)
  • Las Ramblas (Shopping, Bus Tour, 3 hours)

Day 2:

  • La Segrada Familia (Architecture, Walking, 3 hours)
  • Barri Gotico (Shopping, Bicycle Tour, 2 hours)
  • Aeri del Port (Sightseeing, Cable Car, 4 hours)
  • Nova Icaria (Beach, Walking, 1 hour)

Select an activity that can be added to the schedule for the first day. Then select an activity that could be added to the schedule for the second day. Make only two selections, one in each column.

We can allot 12 hrs per day.

Day 1 already has 11 hours scheduled. This means we can only choose from a 1-hour activity. That leaves us with Mirador De Colon, Montserrat and La Pedrera. Since Dad can't visit more than one Art Exhibit per day, La Pedrera is gone. Let us leave this for the moment being.
Day 2 has 10 hours scheduled. This leaves us with 5 options. However, we can further reduce them to all that don't include walking, since the family has already walked 4 hours. This leaves us with Montserrat and Mar Bella. However, Mar Bella is not possible, since it occupies 4 hours. --> Montserrat for day 2.
Given the fact that the family will visit Montserrat on day 2, we can deduce that Mirador De Colon is the place the family will visit on day 1.

D1: Mirador De colon
D2: Montserrat

Hi

In all your proposal has Big Sister visited at least 4 art or architectural sites? It seems to me that no. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks

You're right. There is no solution to this problem. The little brother has already walked 4 hours on day 2, and therefore his sister simply can't visit four art Exhibits or architectural sites.

I think the answer should be
Additional activity on Day 1: Mirador De colon.
Additional activity on Day 2: Montserrat.

Sajjad1994, It would be really helpful if you could post the OA and end the suspense.

Thanks

Hello

There is one thing which make the answer debatable is "Big sister will get credit for school so she must visit at least 4 art or architectural sites during the family’s visit". I think it should be 3 places instead of 4.

OA

Day 1: Mirador De colon
Day 2: Montserrat

PS: I have copied the OA from an online website which states that the question originates from Manhattan GMAT CAT 6 and the OA as such given above. I can not guarantee the OA from the original source.

Thank you.

Official Explanation

In order to answer this logic problem, lay out a clear list of the constraints:

Max # of different activities
Max 12 hours each day
Min of 1 beach activity total
Max 4 hours walking each day
Min of 1 shopping each day
Min 3 art or arch. total
Max 1 art per day

On Day 1, the family has already planned 11 hours of activities, leaving only the one-hour options as possibilities: Mirador de Colon (Architecture, Walking, 1 hour), Montserrat (Sightseeing, Bus Tour, 1 hour), or La Pedrera (Art Museum, Walking, 1 hour). Day 1 already includes an art exhibit (Park Güell), though, so Dad won’t go to La Pedrera, too. The other two options both fit all of the constraints. Leave them both in for now and check the constraints for Day 2.

On Day 2, the family has planned 10 hours of activities, leaving 2 more possible hours to fill. There are already 4 hours of walking activities planned, though, so no more walking activities can be chosen for Day 2. Only two activities don't involve walking: Montserrat (Sightseeing, Bus Tour, 1 hour) and Mar Bella (Ocean, Boat Outing, 4 hours). The family can’t go to Mar Bella, as it takes too much time, so the family must go to Montserrat on Day 2.

Day 1 is a choice between Mirador de Colon and Monserrat. Since the family wants to visit different sites, the Marsdens must go to Mirador de Colon on Day 1.

Column 1: The correct answer is (A).
Column 2: The correct answer is (C).
