I recently watched the movie THE HUNGER GAMES. The films has received a great deal of international attention; so if you haven't heard about it, you are spending way too much time studying for the GMAT or surfing these GMAT Club forums. It occurred to me while watching the film that, like the the HUNGER GAMES, ever year there is a real-world, bloody battle between young people for future wealth and fame. It is called MBA application season or we might call it the MBA Games. I started thinking about the similarities and differences between the MBA Games and the Hunger Games:
Similarities:
-Hungry young people from all over the world enter the competition.
-There are game makers in both contests who develop intricate ways to test and outwit the players.
-The special skills you develop prior to the games are critical to your survival and the players with the most potent skills typically prevail.
-Mentors help participants to prepare for the games. (In the MBA games, they are called admissions consultants.)
-Before the games, the competitors are tested and scored and also must endure an interview.
-The winners of both games may enjoy fame and fortune, but don't always find happiness.
Differences
-In the Hunger Games, competitors fight to the death. As far as I know, no one has been killed in the MBA games, even though it may feel like life and death.
-In the Hunger Games, participants are forced to play by a lottery called the reaping, whereas prospective MBAs voluntarily subject themselves to the MBA Games.
-The Hunger Games is imaginary, the MBA Games are real.
