The men of Bravo Company are marching to capture the flag and are traveling at 2 miles every 15 minutes, while the men of Alpha Company are trying to reach the flag first from 90 miles away. Alpha Company is traveling at 3 miles every 10 minutes. If they start at the same time and arrive at the flag at the same time, how many miles away from the flag did Bravo Company begin?

A. 3.6
B. 40
C. 45
D. 60
E. 80

Given:-
1. Rate of Bravo Company = 2 miles Every 15 minutes <=> 8 miles Every 60 minutes <=> 8 miles/hour.
2. Distance to be covered by Alpha Company from Destination = 90 miles.
3. Rate of Alpha Company = 3 miles Every 10 minutes <=> 18 miles Every 60 Minutes <=> 18 miles/hour.

We are required to calculate distance covered by Bravo company from their starting point to reach destination. Let their distance be X.

Since, both the company start at the same time and complete at their respective distances at same time. The time to reach the destination from their respective points is same.
hence, \(Time(Bravo) = Time (Alpha)\).

Therefore, on evaluation \(\frac{Distance (Bravo)}{Rate (Bravo)} = \frac{Distance (Alpha)}{Rate (Alpha)}\)

\(\frac{X}{8} = \frac{90}{18}\)

\(X=\frac{90 * 8}{18}\)

\(X= 40 miles\).

OA is B

Answer is B.
Time taken by A is 5h.
As they start at the same time, B also spent 5h at the speed of 8 mile per Hour.

Total time required by Alpha company -10/3 X90 =300 minutes.
In 300 minutes. Bravo company travelled =2/15 X300 i.e 40 miles .
Option B is correct.

We are given that Bravo company is traveling at a rate of 2/15 and that Alpha company is traveling at a rate of 3/10. We are also given that Alpha company travels 90 miles to reach the flag. Since time = distance/rate, the time it takes for Alpha company to reach the flag is 90/(3/10) = 900/3 = 300 minutes. Since both Alpha and Bravo company leave at the same time, it also takes Bravo company 300 minutes to reach the flag.

Thus, since distance = rate x time, Bravo company started 2/15 x 300 = 40 miles away from the flag.
