What about initial inventory of 102 hats for february as there are 20 workers... Total will be 304 + 102 = 406 hats in hand. (Answer should be no in that case). Kindly clarify.

OE is not available at my disposal.

Explanation

Statement 1: Working with a team of 20 workers in hat production, the Mouse House will begin February with exactly 100 hats in inventory.

20 workers multiplied by 22 working days multiplied by 8 working hours a day = 20*22*8 = 3520 total hours, and each hat takes 10 hours, so 352 hats can be made in January, and add the initial supply of 50 hats, so the total hats in January are 352+50 = 402. Minus 300 hats are in demand in January. Hence, the month of Feb will start with 102 hats. The answer to the first question is No.

Answer: No

Statement 2: If beginning inventory levels are met, the Mouse House only needs 8 workers to meet its production totals to satisfy its April sales and May initial inventory needs.

In April, 21 working days multiplied by 8 working hours and 8 workers = 21*8*8 = 1344, so a total of 134 hats can be made in April. 80 hats are already available from the March demand of 400*0.20. Hence, the total number of hats available in April is equal to 134+80 = 214 Hence, it can meet the need for 100 hats in April and 20 hats in the beginning inventory of May. The answer to the second statement is Yes.

Answer: Yes

Statement 3: If the Mouse's House has only a team of 20 workers, it will fall more than 150 units short of expected demand in February.

19 working days multiplied by 8 working hours a day and 20 workers available = 19*20*8 = 3040 = 304 hats can be made in Feb. while demand is 500, hence it will fall short of more than 150 hats in Feb. with 20 workers available.

Answer: Yes

Shouldn't we assume a 20% inventory for Feb? Tht way the target would be 400 and not 500.

I understand the confusion, but 20% of the demand in Feb has to be reserved for March. 20% of 500 is 100 hats, so in reality we have 102 (reserve from Jan) + 304 (production for Feb) - 100 (reserved for March) = 306 hats, which is more than 150 units short of 500 hats expected.

Hope this clarifies!

@joshmun2023 why you took 304*0.2 when inventory is at least 20% of the demand  not the 20% of the production!!
