The only diff in C and E seems to be "only occupies & occupies only".
how can we eliminate C on the basic of this? can someone explain

This is called a modifier issue Kajal.

For example, would you say:

(i) Forests only cover 30% of earth's surface.

Or

(ii) Forests cover only 30% of earth's surface.

Hope it is evident to you that (ii) is the right sentence.
