Option D should be the answer.

The argument is that it has become difficult to get the seats in multiplexes in Denvo city. Thus the statement which will weakens the argument will make the seats easier to obtain in multiplexes.

(A) Several blockbuster movies were released in the last five years. Can't say whether due to more movies more people will go for watching movies. Eliminate.
(B) Denvo city had seven multiplexes out of which three have shut down in the last five years. Strengthens the argument. Eliminate
(C) Many residents of Denvo city have stated in a survey that they hate going out for movies. Option doesn't give idea how many people are actually interested. Thus eliminate
(D) The ticket prices charged by multiplexes in Denvo city have fallen over the past five years. If fewer seats are available it may lead to high price of the ticket. However, tickets price have fallen which may be due to less people watching movies in multiplexes or more number of multiplexes. Correct
(E) It is very easy to find seats in multiplexes situated in the neighbouring Vento city. Eliminate, option talks for other city and is irrelevant.

(B) gives a direct other reason leading to the same results. Multiplexes ↓ >>> hard to find seats
While (D) is an indirect causes. Price per ticket ↓ >>> number of people watching movie ↑ >>> hard to find seats

IMO, option (B) is the answer.

The number of people in Denvo city who like to watch movies in multiplexes has apparently increased considerably. Over the last five years it has become difficult to find seats in most multiplexes in Denvo City.

Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the argument?

(A) Several blockbuster movies were released in the last five years.
(B) Denvo city had seven multiplexes out of which three have shut down in the last five years.
(C) Many residents of Denvo city have stated in a survey that they hate going out for movies.
(D) The ticket prices charged by multiplexes in Denvo city have fallen over the past five years.
(E) It is very easy to find seats in multiplexes situated in the neighbouring Vento city

Official Explanation

Answer: B

The argument suggests that the reason it is difficult to find seats in multiplexes in Denvo City is because of the increase in the number of viewers. However, B questions this fact by stating that the number of multiplexes has gone down by almost 50 percent, so the number of viewers could have remained unchanged and yet it would become difficult to find seats because the number of seats itself has gone down.

(A) This provides an explanation for the situation described in the argument and does not weaken it.

(B) The correct answer.

(C) If this is so then why has it become difficult to find seats?

(D) Same as A.

(E) The situation in some other city is irrelevant to the argument.
