A, that should refer to 'flavour' , its comparison is being done

a. The old-time Appalachian flavor of singer Gillian Welch's ballads is much more pronounced than that of the songs of other country singers who were born and raised in Southern California.(Correct comparison)

b. The old-time Appalachian flavor of singer Gillian Welch's ballads is much more pronounced than those of other country singers who were born and raised in Southern California.(use of those refers to singular flavour, incorrect)

c. The old-time Appalachian flavor of singer Gillian Welch's ballads is much more pronounced than those of the songs of other country singers who were born and raised in Southern California.(same as in B)

d. The old-time Appalachian flavor of singer Gillian Welch's ballads is much more pronounced than the songs of other country singers who were born and raised in Southern California.(incorrect comparison,comparison is between flavor and songs)

b. The old-time Appalachian flavor of singer Gillian Welch's ballads is much more pronounced than those of other country singers who were born and raised in Southern California. --> 1. flavor is singular & those is plural 2. wrong comparison: ballads are compared w/ singers

c. The old-time Appalachian flavor of singer Gillian Welch's ballads is much more pronounced than those of the songs of other country singers who were born and raised in Southern California. --> same as b.1

B is wrong, it compares the flavor of the ballads to ‘other country singers…

C uses ‘those’ incorrectly, implying that the songs of the other singers have multiple flavors.

D compares the flavor of the ballads to the other singers songs.

E does the same.

A is the only one that properly compares the flavor of Gillian Welch’s ballads to the flavor of other singers’ songs
