SajjadAhmad, Can you please post summary/brief of the paragraph. While reading I got lost multiple times in 1st paragraph and I am still unable to understand why the author mentioned so many details which have no relevance to an overall passage like - Alexander, Theodosius's ban, the Dorians and Ionians.

From the OE

Topic and Scope -

The author discusses the disunity and turmoil of the Greek Hellenic period, using the Olympics as an example and metaphor.

Mapping the Passage

Para 1 argues that in reality the Hellenic period was tumultuous, not the idealized community that Alexander desired.

Para 2 gives a time frame for Greek civilization and the Olympic games.

Para 3 argues that the games reflected Greek culture, but not positively as the founders intended.

Para 4 argues that the games reinforced disunity instead of promoting the unity originally intended.
