what's wrong with A?


C

I guess "reminiscent of" suggests something in past. "familiar to = known to someone"

C.

familiar is the wrong word to use here, suggests a wierd scenario

reminiscent of appears to be correct.

i was stuck between C and E. Reminiscent of.....is the correct idiom?

Following items to look out for:
Parallel construction: The pattern of... is ominously reminiscent of…
Verb Issue: Referring time in the Great Depression – requires simple past
Idiom: reminiscent of not reminiscent to

(A) familiar to what happened (Not parallel – Eliminate it)
(B) similar with the occurrences (Verb “occurrences” is simple present tense and cannot refer the time line in the Great Depression – Eliminate it)
(C) reminiscent of what happened (hold it)
(D) familiar to the occurrences (Verb “occurrences” is simple present tense and cannot refer the time line in the Great Depression – Eliminate it)
(E) reminiscent to what happened (Idiom issue – Eliminate it)

The correct sentence:

The pattern of economic crisis in the developing countries is ominously reminiscent of what happened in the industrial countries in the Great Depression.

Answer: C
