The perimeter of a square is equal to the perimeter of a rectangle whose length and width are 6m and 4m, respectively. The side of the square is

(A) 3m
(B) 4m
(C) 5m
(D) 6m
(E) 7m

Nova GMAT
With numbers like these, It might be easier and/or faster just to do the arithmetic.

Perimeter of rectangle = 6m + 6m + 4m + 4m

= 20m

Perimeter of rectangle and square are equal.

Square has 4 equal sides. So 20m divided by 4 will give the side length of the square.

20m / 4 = 5m

The perimeter of a square is equal to the perimeter of a rectangle whose length and width are 6m and 4m, respectively. The side of the square is

(A) 3m
(B) 4m
(C) 5m
(D) 6m
(E) 7m

We can let the side of the square be s, and thus the perimeter of the square is 4s.

Since the width of the rectangle is 6 and the length is 4, the perimeter of the rectangle is 2(6) + 2(4) = 20.

Since the two perimeters are equal:

4s = 20

s = 5 meters
