The price of a shirt at a store A is 25% higher than the price at store B and 12.5% higher than the price at store C. The price of the shirt is what percent higher at store C than at store B ?

A. 9%
B. 10%
C. 11 1/9%
D. 12 1/2%
E. 25%

If B \(= 100\) then A \(= 125\) and C\(= \frac{1000}{9}\)

Required \(\% = \frac{c-b}{b}*100 =\frac{100}{9} = 11\frac{1}{9} \%\)

Ans C

Hope it's clear.

how did you come at c = 1000/9?

Let price at store \(c\) be \(x\) then we are given \(\frac{112.5}{100}*c= 125 \) (A's price is \(12.5\%\) greater than \(c\) )

c\(= \frac{125000}{112.5}=\frac{1250000}{1125}=\frac{250000}{225}= \frac{5000}{45}=\frac{1000}{9}\)

Hope now it's clear.

A = 250 B = 200 C = 225

C-B / B
225 - 200 / 225 = 1/9 or 11 1/9%

A. 9%
B. 10%
C. 11 1/9%
D. 12 1/2%
E. 25%

This is an application of percent fraction equivalents. Take numbers which lead to easy calculations. 25% higher is equivalent to 5/4 and 12.5% higher is equivalent to 9/8.

If you are not sure how, check:

https://anaprep.com/arithmetic-simple-a ... rcentages/

So if C is 80, A is 90.
If A is 90, B is 90 * (4/5) = 72

Hence C (=80) is 8 more than B (= 72) which gives \(\frac{8}{72} * 100 = \frac{1}{9} * 100 = 11.11%\)

Answer (C)

A. 9%
B. 10%
C. 11 1/9%
D. 12 1/2%
E. 25%
This is how I solved it

A= 1+25/100(B) => 1+1/4=> 5/4

A= 1+12.5/100(C) => 1+1/8=> 9/8

Percent change = Final - Initial / Final * 100

Thus Percent change = [5/4-9/8]/9/8 * 100 => [1/8]/[9/8] *100 => 1/9 *100 => 11.11 (11 1/9)

Thus Option (C)
