Had to choose between B and D .. came up with D since the last line is more like an anecdote rather than an evidence supporting a conclusion

The main problem with D is the word "qualifying." This might seem to mean "supporting," but it actually means "providing an exception to." So this is the opposite of what we want. Also, the author is supporting the stated conclusion, not an "implied assumption."
