Let the number of boys =7x
let the number of girls = 5x
5x + 7x = 312
12x = 312
x = 26
So, number of boys = 7*26 = 182
number of girls = 5*26 = 130
Number of more boys = 182 - 130 = 52

Since the ratio is 7:5, slice the population into 7 + 5 = 12 equal slices. Then 7 - 5 = 2 slices, out of the 12, would represent how many more boys there are than girls. Thus \(\frac{2}{12}*312 = \frac{1}{6}*(300 + 12) = 52\) is the answer.

We can create the equation:
7x + 5x = 312
12x = 312
x = 26
In terms of x, there are 7x - 5x = 2x more boys than girls. So there are 2(26) = 52 more boys than girls.
Answer: C
