The ratio of number of teachers to number of students in school X is equal to that of school Y. What is the ratio of number of students in school X to number of students in school Y?
(1) The number of the students in school X is 2,000 more than the number of the students in school Y.
(2) The ratio of number of teachers to number of students in school Y is 1:20.
In school \(x\) let the ratio of Teachers to students be t : s
In School \(y\) let the ratio of Teachers to students be a : b
We know \(\frac{t}{s} = \frac{a}{b} \)
(1) The number of the students in school X is 2,000 more than the number of the students in school Y.
Since we do not know what is b we cannot find b+2000 and hence the required ratio.
INSUFF.(2) The ratio of number of teachers to number of students in school Y is \(1:20.\)
\(\frac{t}{s} = \frac{a}{b} = \frac{1}{20}\)
Still we cannot find \(\frac{b}{s}\)
INSUFF.1+2
\( b=20 \) or \(40 \) or anyother multiple of \(20\), since we do not know the actual b we cannot find the ratio .
