My Analysis
A. Wrong because of subject verb agreement. Gap is singular and hence the verb should be singular.
B. The intended contrast and the subject verb agreement is clear and hence the correct answer.
C. Two independent clauses are connected properly with a comma and 'and' but the intended contrast is missing.
D. Two independent clauses are not connected properly. The choice is missing a co-ordinating conjunction
E. Changes the meaning even though it corrected the subject verb agreement.
