His speed with the current is 9 kmph, and his speed against the current is 6 kmph. We see that 50 minutes is 50/60 = ⅚ of an hour. Letting D = the one-way distance, we can create the time equation as:

D/9 + D/6 = 5/6

Multiplying by 90, we have:

10D + 15D = 75

25D = 75

D = 3

Answer: C
