The sum of 9 minutes, 50 seconds and x is 34 percent of one hour. What does x equal?

A. 50 minutes, 10 seconds
B. 34 minutes, 00 seconds
C. 10 minutes, 34 seconds
D. 20 minutes, 24 seconds
E. 39 minutes, 36 seconds

34 percent of 1 hour is 0.34 x 60 = 20.4 minutes = 20 minutes and 24 seconds

Thus, x must be 10 minutes and 34 seconds, since 9 min + 10 min = 19 min, and 50 sec + 34 sec = 84 sec = 1 min 24 sec, making a total of 19 min + 1 min 24 sec = 20 min 24 sec.

Answer: C

B. 34 minutes, 00 seconds
C. 10 minutes, 34 seconds
D. 20 minutes, 24 seconds

\(9*60 + 50 + x = \frac{34}{100}*60*60\)

\(590 + x = 1224\)

So, \(x = 634\)

Answer will be (C) 10 minutes, 34 seconds

B. 34 minutes, 00 seconds
C. 10 minutes, 34 seconds

ALTERNATE METHOD

34% of 60 Minutes is 20 Minutes 24 Seconds

Now, ( 20 Minutes 24 Seconds ) - ( 9 minutes, 50 seconds ) = 10 Minutes 36 Seconds, Answer must be (C)
