(A) 2S + 3
(B) 3S + 2

(D) 2S + 6
(E) 2S + 12

a and b
a+b=S .
sum ; 2(a+3)+2(b+3)=2(a+b)+12=
2S +12
IMO E

Sum = S.

There are 2 numbers. 3 will be added to each of them. total 6 will be added to the sum.

S + 6.

now we are asked to double the number.

2(S + 6) = 2S + 12.

E is the correct answer.

Hi,

Can you please see if the two numbers are 3 and 7, still the answer will hold true?
Am I missing something??

Raghu8712
at 3 & 7 we will have a+b= s; 10
and
2*6 + 2*10 = 12 +20 ;32
so option E
2S+12 ; 2*10 + 12 ; 32
correct ..

We can let the two numbers be a and b. So we have a + b = S. We need to express 2(a + 3) + 2(b + 3) in terms of S.

2(a + 3) + 2(b + 3)

2a + 6 + 2b + 6

2(a + b) + 12

2S + 12

Answer: E
