The television report identified two of those pictured as Mr. Nguyen's daughter Vi-An as well as her own daughter.

A. daughter Vi-An as well as
B. daughter Vi-An with
C. daughter, Vi-An, and also as
D. daughter Vi-An and
E. daughter—Vi-An—also

So tough to get it right when the sentence does not makes sense to one?

Would anybody shed some light on what the sentence is actually trying to say?

Thanks
Cheers!

Happy new year!
J :)

Let's read the question and try to understand and do some prethinking.

The television report identified two of those pictured as Mr. Nguyen's daughter Vi-An as well as her own daughter.

Let's say there was an accident and there are fatalities. A TV report identified two of those pictured/photographed. One was Mr.X 's daughter. Another was 'her' daughter, which obviously means, X's daughter's daughter (i.e. the two who died in the accident were a mother-daughter pair)

A. daughter Vi-An as well as
As well as brings a parallel relationship w.r.t Mr. Nguyen
Ex: Mr. Nguyen's daughter as well as his son died in the accident.

B. daughter Vi-An with
We are talking about two of those pictured. So, 'with' cannot justify this relationship.
Ex: Mr. Nguyen's daughter, with her daughter, died in the accident.

C. daughter, Vi-An, and also as
Wrong relationship w.r.t Mr. Nguyen
Nguyen's daughter (Vian), also her daughter? Who is the third person 'her' outside the frame of the question?

D. daughter Vi-An and
Correctly talks about Mr. Nguyen's daughter and her daughter (Nguyen daughter's daughter).
E. daughter—Vi-An—also
Wrong relationship w.r.t Mr. Nguyen
Nguyen's daughter (Vian), also her daughter? Who is the third person 'her' outside the frame of the question?

IMO D is better than A.

I may be stupid but I doubt the validity of the question. Someone please provide the source and post the OA.

Whom is the pronoun "her" above referring to? - Mr. Nguyen or her daughter?

Her is referring to Mr. Nguyen (wrong pronoun reference. Please read the expln. provided above.)
