The US has experienced a big growth in job creation. This trend has continued for several years and will soon eliminate the problem of joblessness.

Which one of the answers below is an error in the reasoning that leads to the above prediction?

A) It does not quote numbers showing how jobs are growing in comparison to the population
B) Some people will never have jobs because they lack the skills to hold a simple job
C) It fails to quote government reports comparing pay rates of new jobs to minimum wage
D) Some people will have to hold 2 or 3 jobs to live at a minimum level.

I'd say A as well... job growth and population growth go hand in hand.

Caas, where are you getting these CR questions from? LSAT? Retired GMAT? They seem a bit different than typical real GMAT type questions.

I was torn between A and D but then opted for A. I am surprised OA isnt A. D seems a tad extreme though

Fact:
- The US has experienced a big growth in job creation
- This trend has continued for several years

Conclusion
- This trend will soon eliminate the problem of joblessness

Assumption
-

A) It does not quote numbers showing how jobs are growing in comparison to the population - Eliminate - Does not matter.
B) Some people will never have jobs because they lack the skills to hold a simple job - Eliminate - Q does not talk about skills.
C) It fails to quote government reports comparing pay rates of new jobs to minimum wage - Eliminate - Q is not about pay rates
D) Some people will have to hold 2 or 3 jobs to live at a minimum level.
E) It fails to consider tax rates - Eliminate - Q is not about tax rates

D is the best choice.

- The jobs are growing which in our fact.
- One person will have 2 or 3 jobs. So the jobs are not being distributed amongst the population and hence the problem of joblessness will not go.

Hence D is the answer.

The conclusion is about joblessness...not about minimum wage.

Some people will have 2 or 3 jobs doesn't mean that others wont have jobs with a large boom in the industry...so we cant say that it will mean joblessness for others...others may get jobs but may not get a minimum wage level for these.

B seems much better...not sure though??...whats the OA??

Definitely would have gone for A during test.

Knowing OA is not A, only then would go for B.

There is a job boom which will soon eliminate joblessness.

But if jobs are not created to meet the demand for jobs (hence we need to know about population growth), then joblessness will not be eliminated.

Similarly, I suppose we can say if people cannot hold jobs then joblessness will not be eliminated but this reasoning seems weak compared to above reasoning.

OE:

It's unwarranted assumption to assume that all people can hold a job. Some people, because of a lack of education or training, or because of physical or mental handicap, will never be ablr to hold a job. These people may be considered chronically unemployed. The answer is (B).

I personally chose A too.
But now I think that (A) would be good for essay argument writing, but not for CR problem.
