There are only whisky bottles and vodka bottles on a table, and the total weight of the bottles is 8.1 pounds. How many bottles are there on the table?
1. each whisky bottle weighs 1.2 pounds.
2. each vodka bottle weighs 0.7 pounds.

1 and 2 together are sufficient:

1.2*x + 0.7*y = 8.1 => 12x + 7y = 81 => y :: 3 => y = 3, 6, 9, ...

Moreover, y is odd, since 81-12x is odd.

a) if y = 3 => x = 5,

b) y = 9 => x = 1.5 - non-integer.

C.

1) INSUFFICIENT
2) INSUFFICIENT

Together, 12X + 7Y = 81.

X and Y must be integers since we're dealing with bottles.

Y is odd since 81 - 12X is odd. (Odd - Even = Odd)

The only combination possible is X = 5 and Y = 3. So there are 8 bottles.
