Are aime questions comparable in difficulty as any of the questions you'll see on the Gmat? I imagine most, if not all aime questions would be at least somewhat more difficult

Difficulty of AIME or AMC does not differ dramatically from GMAT 700 level questions. This one was not so difficult in fact. One thing we should take into account that logic of mathematics is universal. By learning one approach we’ll be able to solve similar questions in GMAT, SAT, CAT, etc.

There exists a positive prime number n, such that 16n+1 equals the cube of a positive integers. What is the value of n?

This is AIME question. Logic used in solving this question can come in handy for tackling “hard” gmat problems. Sorry I don’t have answer choices.

Kudos for correct solution.

let x=cube root
x^3-1=(x-1)(x^2+x+1)
let x-1=16
x=17
x^2+x+1=307=n
