Hi All,
I’m looking to start an MBA in 2015. Any thoughts on my chances?
TARGET SCHOOLS:
- Harvard, Wharton, Columbia, Stanford, Booth, Kellog
PROFILE:
Canadian/Caucasian Male, 26/27
Education: BA from top Canadian business school
GPA: 3.6
GMAT: 720 (94%), Q45 (68%) V44 (97%)
PROFESSIONAL:
- 3 years at a relatively unknown asset management firm in buy-side equity research (promoted to more senior role in one of the shortest times in company history)
- 3 co-op terms at Big 4 Auditor
- 1 co-op term at Large Canadian Retailer
EXTRAS:
- President of a Professional Club
- Board of directors of a charity helping kids with learning disabilities
- Diagnosed with learning disability, Dyslexia
- Brother is at HBS (Not sure if this matters)
Career Goal:
- Venture Capital with learning technology focus

Hey dude,
Well you are definitely off to an excellent start. You have the GMAT, the GPA, and are in the right industry. Just because you aren't in a huge or superfamous firm is not necessarily a negative point, although if you can "Sell" that firm as up-and-coming, or successful, it will help your overall image as well. Quick promotions are awesome, and it is one of the KEY points that Top 10 MBA programs.
Is your profile good enough for the Top 5,6 that you are applying at? Possibly. I'd need to dig in a bit more, and get more into detail about your profile.You are definitely at least Top 20, and there's no need for you to apply to anything lower. I think that with what you have here though, you can definitely aim for these schools, and I would say aim for all of them (if you can, or if not, then 4) in R1 of next year, then add one or two schools that are a bit lower but in the Top 20 to be safe (say NYU and Johnson) for R2 to play it safe, and you'd likely be in preeeeeeetty good shape.
PS - Very cool that you have a Bro at HBS. It does matter at Harvard.
