Raisins - 3 x 1.11 = 3.33 ; Corn Flakes - 0.9 x 4 = 0.36 ; 7 pounds cost = 3.33 + 3.60 = 6.93
21 cent per pound -> 0.21 x 7 = 1.47 Profit for all 7 pounds
Total = 6.93 + 1.47 = 8.40. Per pound -> 8.40/7 = 1.20

Three pounds of raisins and 4 pounds of corn flakes are used to make a large bag of breakfast cereal. Raisins cost $1.11 per pound and flakes cost $.90 per pound. What must the grocer charge for a pound of the cereal to make a profit of 21 cents per pound?

A. $0.99
B. $1.00
C. $1.07
D. $1.20
E. $1.21

Let p be the price the grocer must charge so that a profit of 21 cents is made per pound. Note that the grocer is making 7 pounds of breakfast cereal from the two ingredients.

7p - 4(0.9) - 3(1.11) = 0.21 x 7

7p - 3.6 - 3.33 = 1,.47

7p = 8.4

p = 1.2
