Verb-ed modifier should modify the coach as he was thrilled with the team's performance.

A,B,D are out.
E is out because of incorrect tense. He was thrilled and that's why he announced a day off. He didn't announce a day off prior to feeling thrilled.

C is the correct answer.

A easy SC noun modifier question!
Quote:
Thrilled with the performance of his team and the win over an arch rival, it was announced by the coach to give his players a day off from practice.

Thrilled with the performance of his team and the win over an arch rival This should modify coach, so "coach" should be following the comma.
Only C and E follow this.

E has past perfect had, this means coach announced a day off before he was thrilled with the performance of his team. Absurd!
E out.

C it is!
