Official Explanation

3. Factoring in the cosmological constant provides an answer to which of the following questions?

Difficulty Level: 700

Explanation

A) Incorrect. The cosmological constant alone was insufficient to account for the increase in expansion.

B) Incorrect.

C) Correct. Given in para 2

D) and E) are incorrect and irrelevant.

Answer: C

What about second paragraph:

The observation that the expansion of the universe isn’t slowing down could be explained by the presence of a force – not identified yet – that opposes and overpowers the gravitational attraction force among the cosmic objects. Although this force is now called the ‘cosmological constant’,

I think it also explains the reason for the existence of the 'cosmological constant'

My thoughts though :please:
