My answer is (D). It took me 42 seconds.
(A) A major flaw in this version is "than any major magazine". Because Time magazine is one of major magazines, it cannot have a higher number than itself. Granted, the knowledge of Time magazine is an outside information.
(B) see above.
(C) For comparison, we need "a comparative adjective / adverb + than". Here, "more than" is used instead.
(D) By removing "more" from (C), this version is correct.
(E) For comparison, we need "a comparative adjective / adverb + than". Here, "as" is used instead.
