Fellow MBA-hopefuls,
Despite this being my first post under this moniker, I am a longtime member of the community. I now have a dilemma, and am turning to your fine minds for advice.
Seven years ago, I was diagnosed with a degenerative disc disease called spinal stenosis. The condition has resulted in recurring herniated discs and, thus, much pain. Although I had surgery on 2 discs years ago, I now am back to square one, and need a surgery again. This time, however, it will be fairly major, and I will be bedridden for up to six weeks.
I have been fortunate to already receive one admit, and have 2 interviews scheduled over the next 2 weeks. I am waiting on about 5 other schools, including several of my top choices.
I need surgery fast, and unfortunately cannot wait until I hear back from each school. I am thinking about calling them to inform them, in the hopes that if I was to be considered for an interview, we can schedule it before I go to the hospital.
Not sure what to do...any thoughts?

Sorry to hear about your condition and wish you best of luck on the surgery.
If I were in your shoe, I may ask anonymously for advice to the remaining 5 schools and act based on their advice, but if I had to decide now, I would not put in a request for early consideration.
This is partially because schools get many, many requests for early review with all sorts of reasons. For many schools, the first reaction is likely skepticism (and it's not good to have them doubt you before they read your app), and even if they did believe you, the answer is likely that they have a policy that says no special considerations on timing. With thousands upon thousands applications each year worldwide, I think the only feasible way for schools to deal with special requests is to say no to all of them.
However, if you are selected to do an interview, then you are part of a small group of people who they are very interested in and you could probably do a phone interview from the hospital (or work out some other arrangement with the school, since they give you a person to contact in case of issues).
In general, I think they will be far more accommodating after you've been selected for interview as opposed to before.

Disagree completely. Call the schools you are most interested in and ask them to consider your application early for that very reason. Adcoms are people, not automons. If you have a legitimate reason to ask for early consideration, and this is, than I'd wager they would be more than accomodating for you. If not, then that probably tells you something about the school.
Full Disclosure: I got the M7 school I was most interested in to consider my application early for much less serious reasons and ultimately got accepted.
