Our default time management strategy involves being a little more aggressive in SC. Beyond this, we work with individual students to fine tune their approach once they develop a feel for the question types and we get a better idea about their strengths and weaknesses.

Hi,
While taking mock tests I have usually faced the situation where I am left with around 12-15 minutes and have around 10-12 questions to do in Verbal. Now my last RC which is a big one appears near question no 25. I usually take 10 minutes to solve the RC with accuracy of 75% but since clock is ticking i know i'll make mistakes so i choose to do all 2-3 answers incorrectly and work on next CR/SC questions as many as I can. Is this approach okay or I should change it??
Many Thanks Samreen

Thank you for this strategy. I adapted it a little to make it simpler. For both quant/verbal, I aimed to finish question 8 with 50 min left and question 15 with 30 min left. I just felt like that minimized any major timing issues and simplified the process for me.

I am having trouble in managing time in difficult quant questions particularly in DS questions. I divide my entire test into slots and check the clock accordingly. But in a few difficult questions, I spend more than 3 minutes unknowingly and sometimes don't even solve them correctly. How can I keep track of time for individual questions? In Verbal RC is screwing up my time plan. I am not able to slot my test because of the RCs; we dont know when we will get them. Can someone please help me with the same?

Is it true that for the verbal section every question that is left unanswered in the end (due to lack of time) is as good as a wrong answer and hence no penalty?

Hi bb, If I choose Verbal as my first section, will I have enough time to write A B C D E before the exam starts? I have the habit of writing A B C D E for all 36 questions and it helps score better. Please shed some light on this so that I can prepare my timing strategy before the exam.

You will get the instructions and other waiting time opportunities. Choice of section should not impact your timing strategy. Posted from my mobile device

Timing Strategies on the GMAT [Master Thread]

Hi bb
don't you think this part needs to be updated \ Reading Comprehension (RC) All of this was building up towards the section I had the most problems with - reading comprehension. I knew that I needed 0:45 x 15 for SC's, 1:30 x 14 for CR's and that left 40 minutes for RC, which meant I could spend 10 minutes per passage. I would read the passage very carefully and spend probably 5-6 minutes doing and not feeling rushed as I knew I could read any passage in that period of time. After finishing the text, I knew I had 1 minute for each question so I did not need to rush either. On the Verbal, I did not really keep track of the clock when moving from question to question, but I would note the time when I start the RC passage and made sure I did not go over the 10 min interval by the end.
As new format has
(a) RC: 13-14 (4 passages) (b) SC: 12-13 (c) CR: 9-10 (d) PS: 17-18 (e) DS: 13-14
