Today, I received my toefl scores. Happy to see 100 on my scorecard. (Trust me, It's huge achievement for an average guy like me) Honestly, I prepared just for 2 days. Thanks to GMATCLUB, coz I didn't have to waste my time searching on Google for prep materials. I knew I can score good in reading and writing, my main concern was of listening and speaking section. So I went through the format and structure of the questions and, trust me, that helped a lot. 1st Feb'13 (First day): I devoted my 75% of the day for Listening and 25% for Reading. Listening: I attempted 30 listening questions(15 conversations and 15 lectures) from https://www.english-test.net/toefl/listening/ and was quite comfortable then with the listening section, as it gave me pretty good insights on what to jot down and what not to, and what kinds of questions to anticipate. Reading: As I am preparing for GMAT, by the time I started preparing for TOEFL I had solved approximately 100 passages. But I didn't know what type of questions and how long passage would be in the toefl. So I had to prepare for toefl reading section in order to get familiar with structure. so I attempted 4 reading tests from https://www.examenglish.com/TOEFL/toefl_reading.htm , One thing I would like to mention here is that don't ever read entire passage in one go, as Toefl questions are pretty straight forward and are asked in sequence with paragraph. e.g. 1st question will be on 1st para, 2nd on 2nd para and so on...and the last question would ask you to summarize the passage. So read question first and then read the corresponding para and mark the answer. 2nd Feb 2013(2nd Day) I knew speaking can ruin my score so decided to give 80% of the day to speaking section preparation and 20% to writing preparation. Speaking: At first, I went through all the videos of speaking and writing section toefl-instructional-videos-speaking-writing-very-useful-100611.html >, this gave me idea about type of questions and about how to prepare for the answer in 15-20 seconds. After every speaking question video, I tried 5 questions of the same type from this site https://www.eng1on1.com/ibt.php?test=1 >. I used following templates for speaking and writing section templates-tfl-94210.html Writing: I didn't prepare much for this section. I took two random questions of each type and attempted them with proper time limit. The above writing videos and writing template helped me a lot. closed everything and slept at 11:00pm. 3rd Feb 2013(Judgment day) Woke up at 7:30am, got ready and by 9:00am I left for the exam center. Midway I had heavy breakfast (exam was of 4 hrs, so I had to make sure that I don't feel hungry). 9:30 was the reporting time, I reached there by 9:45am. After all the document procedures at 10am, I entered into the exam hall and everybody had tested their mics and started with reading section. (if you are reading and everybody else is testing their mic, It's very hard to concentrate on reading. As I was late, I was the last one to test the mic). Reading went like breeze, faced no disturbance. Listening also went well until I reached last 2 lectures, as all the people have started their speaking section already making me difficult to concentrate (I was late, I had to pay somewhere). 10 Mins break.(I didn't leave my seat, instead I wrote down the templates I prepared for speaking section.) Speaking section went OK. I felt independent tasks to be more difficult than integrated tasks. I tried to avoid hmm, umm and gaps while speaking. I was not quite happy with the way Speaking section went, but kept up my spirit saying I'll cover my score in writing. In writing section, both tasks were very easy, used templates and tried to write down as much as I can. In integrated task I wrote down about 350 words and in independent task I wrote down about 450 words. and was the last person to leave the exam hall. Well, English speaking can't be learned in just two days, so In the end, I was quite satisfied with the way exam went. I roughly judged my performance and expected 20 in speaking, and at least 25 in each other sections. total of at least 95 (20+25+25+25). 12th Feb 2013 (Today) I received my scores for Toefl. here they are: Reading: 28 (Expected) Listening: 23 (Lowest of them all...it's disappointing, but remembering that I had to struggle with last two tasks, it was expected) Speaking: 24 (Happy happy, can't ask for more) Writing: 25 (Expected) total: 100/120.. TOEFL mission accomplished.. :)..Should anyone need any help, feel free to post.

Hi Daviesj,

My TOEFL exam is on September 20. I am fine with Reading and Listening sections.

I have checked your post and it is more helpful to me. But the writing section template you mentioned below is not working.

Helllo,
I found this club when I was googling for TOEFL tips, then I joined it.
Actually I'm about to apply for MA in International Development and programs alike (which require GRE) and not necessarily MBA. Is there any club related to my program ?

This is my first post in gmatclub though I have been a member for quite some time. I am from India. When I started to prepare for my TOEFL, I was searching for some good sources that could help preparing in a short time. I was really lucky to see this post. I had 10 days before my TOEFL when I saw this post. This post is really really helpful. And by following the tips and resources shared in this post I got a 111 in just 10 days.
Reading - 27; Speaking - 26; Listening and Writing - 29;

GMATCLUB is a boon for mba aspirants. It helped me a lot in preparing for my GMAT.
When I couldn't cross 660 in my two GMAT attempts, gmatclub helped me a lot in providing lots and lots of valuable resources for both quant and verbal.
I sincerely thank the founder and the math guru Bunuel for their wonderful posts. Rons videos from MGMAT are awesome resources for verbal preparation.
Thanks a lot again. I finally got 720 in GMAT. Without the questions and practice that I got in gmatclub, I would not have crossed 700 at all.

I want to thank you all and especially daviesj for the great advices you've given, it has been of great help.
I have just received my TOEFL results and got a score of 116/120 (R30;L29;S28;W29). I prepared for about 5 days (intensively though) and it went really well!
The test in itself was really stressful but without any suprise (except maybe for the listening test that did appear to be harder than expected). If I had to give one tip: do as many practice tests as it takes for you to be confident, because if you stress during the speaking section that's going to be problematic.
Anyway, thank you again for everything, and merry Christmas everyone !

Thanks Davies J ... I used your suggestions and a few more tests on the websites. I prepared for around 4 days. The test went pretty well but i expected to get somewhere near 100.
I just received my scores and i got 108/120.
Reading :- 25 (expected more !)
Listening :- 27
Speaking:- 26
Writing:- 30

Hello! Thank you so much for this. I have been looking for free toefl prep online and could find nothing, literally! Okay, so my test is on the 7th f March and I have bought this book: Kaplan Toefl IBT premier 2014-2015 but the problem is that I just bought the book and therefore do not have online access to their practice tests. What can I do to prepare and ace the toefl within this time frame (8 days left only).

P.S: This is my first time at it and I want to give my best shot because I won't be giving it again. I am going to U.S for uni and although they need an 80+ I want to score a 100+ I would be EXTREMELY grateful for any hep and tips. Also, could you please tell me where I can find free Full Length Practice tests?

Both parents should have an equal responsibility in child rearing.

Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Essay:
I believe that both parents have individual responsibilities towards their children. Father's are usually the bread earners of the family and mothers are the housewives who raise the children. However, this is ideally a custom in most Eastern countries. In the west responsibilities of child rearing and earning for the family are equally shared. Mothers usually work side by side to support the finances. In eastern side of the world families are at advantage when they live together as a joint family. Mothers do not have to worry about their children the whole time as there are other people who are usually willing to take care of the young ones of the family. This is an advantage of a joint-family system.

However, due to privacy issues many families in the west think of it as absurd to live with two or more generations altogether in one house. They are justified in their beliefs as personal space is also a key in rearing children with a healthy attitude. Aside from the such families, responsibilities increase as people start living as a nuclear family.

Personally, I believe that a mother has to do more work compared to a father if she is not a housewife. She has to work and earn a living for the family as well as raise her children. Therefore I believe that the fathers should participate too, be it from changing diapers, washing the child's feeding utensils or waking up in the middle of the night when they wake up. There is a lot more than this when raising a child but a mother would be much better at it and that is to read bed time stories and cuddle with the child so that he or she may have a good night's sleep. Both parents therefore have equal responsibilities in raising children.

hello everyone,

I just got over with my GRE and have toefl exam (ibt) in 6 days. I have not prepared anything as yet. although i have been preparing words and passages for gre so not really a prob with that section,but what i want guidance about is speaking and listening section. and yes, if the reading and writing part is not analogous with GRE exam, then help me with that also.
