How important is it to take CAT's?

I think it's really important, as CAT is the format of the real test. Taking practice CATs will help you become comfortable with the format, so you don't freak out on test day...just my $0.02.

Last time I took Kaplans CAT and scored 520 and that just crushed my motivation. I didn't give up and have been practicing for about 2 weeks.

Now I want to try the CAT again, but I'm too scared of the after effects of a low score.

I planned to take the CAT last weekend, but didn't take it. Rather spent my time going through the CR Bible.

Besides the fear of low score, I fear of using up all the CATs without much benefit.

Kaplan tests are very tough and if you browse this forum you will find that not lot of folks score high in those tests. So cheer up. GMAT prep is the closest thing to GMAT. In my personal opinion manhattan CATS are second best among the available practice tests.

Don't be scared. In my opinion, you really need to know where you stand. I was scared to take a CAT before. I was like "don't wanna waste them", want to take a CAT "when I'm ready".

I would say, don't waste them, however, don't be scared of them. I just got a really low score on my CAT this Sunday and it was a depressing experience. But I realized these set backs are common to every test taker.
