I just got back from the testing center and wanted to share my experience. I took my first GMAT in September and got a 500. I am not like a lot of the people on here who are going for a 700+ score. I just want to get into the masters of professional accounting program at my current university, where the average is a 540. So the first time I took it I studied with Kaplan and was averaging around 530 when I took the test in September. When I went though the test the first time i knew quant didnt go well and that threw me off going into the verbal I think. When I got to the score screen and it read 500 it was so disappointing.
Standardized tests have always been difficult for me and on top of it all i am Dyslexic. So I was pretty nervous about going into to studying to begin with. While studying for it the first time I made the major mistake of just constantly doing problems, I never took the time to learn the basics. Bottom line this killed me DONT DO THIS!!!!!. mastering the basics is a must. After my 500 score I re-evaluated my technique and found this website. This website was one of the best things i have found it helped me so much and drove me to buy a couple of the
MGMAT books, which were a god send. I cant tell you how much the
MGMAT techniques helped me.
Quant was where I was really struggling, both the
MGMAT tests and the tests here are much harder than what you are going see on test day.
MGMAT's methods are good especially for number properties. So going into test 2 i pretty much only studied Quant and a little Verbal. For the verbal all I really looked at was Sahil's grammer guide, which i found here and was alot of help.
Here is an overview of my scores and my practice scores when i studied for the second time
1st Gmat 500 31Q 28V
2nd GMAT 620 42Q 34V
MGMAT 4 650 44Q 35V
MGMAT 5 610 43Q 31V
MGMAT 6 640 43Q 35V
GMAT prep 1 dont remember the section scores but got a 610
GMAT prep 2 43Q 32V 630
So i was testing pretty good going into the real thing but thats what i thought the first time. When the score showed 620 i about exploded with happiness. So overall thanks to everyone here and I highly recommend taking the math tests here and
MGMAT tests, without those i dont know where i would be.
