Top EMBAs: Minimum Work Experience Requirements
Many professionals interested in Executive MBA programs sometimes wonder whether top programs have minimum work experience requirements. Can they get into a top EMBA program with only five years of experience? Seven years? Nine years?
Many top Executive MBA programs remain open-minded about work experience and are open to candidates with only five or six years of work experience if it is quality experience. However, some top programs do have minimum work experience requirements. Here are some:
Schools with minimum work experience requirements:
Wharton EMBA: 8 years (candidates with less than 8 years can apply as a Wharton Fellow)
MIT Sloan Fellows MBA: 10 years (note, this is not the “regular” MIT EMBA program)
Stanford MSx: 8 years
NYU EMBA: 6 years
Schools with stated preferences:
Yale: 7 years (but it can make exceptions)
MIT: 10 years (preferred, makes exceptions)
Kellogg: 8 years preferred (not rigid)
Schools that don’t state a minimum or preference:
Notably, neither Columbia nor Booth states a minimum work experience requirement. Haas sometimes directs candidates it considers to have too little work experience to their part-time program.
