[quote="Bunuel"]What is the number of pages of a certain journal article?

(1) The size of each page is \(5 \frac{1}{2}\) inches by 8 inches.

(2) The average (arithmetic mean) number of words per page is 250.

Total number of pages in a journal=Total no of words in the journal/No of words per page or Avg, no of words per page.

St1:-Dimension of page is given.Irrelevant info to determine no of pages.
Insufficient.
St2:-Avg. no of words per page is given, still we need the total no of words in the journal to determine the no of pages.
insufficient.

Combining, we have the same deficiency of information.
hence, insufficient.

NEW question from GMAT® Official Guide 2019

(DS02562)

Solution:

Question Stem Analysis:

We need to determine the number of pages of a certain journal article.

Statement One Alone:

Knowing the size of each page does not allow us to determine the number of pages of the journal article. Statement one alone is not sufficient.

Statement Two Alone:

Knowing the average number of words per page does not allow us to determine the number of pages of the journal article. Statement two alone is not sufficient.

Statements One and Two Together:

Knowing both the size of each page and the average number of words per page still would not allow us to determine the number of pages of the journal article. Both statements together are not sufficient.
