Great info. Thanks livehard and tino. I do have one slight change to suggest.

Can we add an asterisk on top of UCLA Anderson? I thought up until last year they interviewed every applicant. So the 45% interview rate doesnt seem accurate. Starting this year, they are interviewing a hitherto unknown % of applicants and based on the acceptances so far, the interview to admit % seems very high(in fact I dont know of anyone this year who was rejected/WL after their interview). So, this stat may need some adjustment.

I agree that several notes should likely be included that explain why some schools were not included and that Wharton's interview rate is estimated. The 45% number for Anderson came from businessweek.com and was listed as the percentage for the class matriculating in 2007 (see the link below).

https://www.businessweek.com/bschools/rankings/full_time_mba_profiles/ucla.html

One other thing to note is that (as reported by bw) Anderson only interviewed 87% of admitted students (as opposed to 97%+ for other schools). Hence their post-interview acceptance rate would actually be 87%(23%)/45% = 44% rather than the 51% that was posted (given that you accept the bw numbers).

I agree with NC, for Anderson, the only way to know their interview to acceptance ratio is to get some data from this year's applicants. I'll update if I hear any info from the A-days in 2 weekends.

We can ask ad-coms if schools can provide alum contacts in the area who could act as ambassadors for the school.

Good suggestions so far. Some of the questions seem more appropriate for a hostage negotiation

Keep them coming. Go easy on them guys - they are the first line of defense - they probably don't even know why some policies are in place.

livehard - great work there. :)

I have request, if not a question. Ad-coms need to do a better job of making the decision making process transparent. In some schools, once you submit the app, the next email you get might be a rejection on the decision deadline with absolutely no communication in between. Chicago GSB has the best admissions process. They provide a forum where ad-coms answer questions, they have regular chats, respond fast to questions and by having a two-tier decision process( a mid-decision and a final result), make the wait much easier. I wish more schools follow their example.

If we're talking about asterisks, I will add the Fuqua interviews just about everyone. Interviews are student-initiated, and while they're not required, I think you'd be silly not to do one. There is some variation in the process for internationals, but EVERYONE is invited to come to campus and interview.

Oh dear lord - now we are taking the time to think about *motivations* for actions being taken! Right ON! I always find that thinking about if there is incentive for someone to take a given action usually leads to a better understanding. As an aside - I also find that "C.Y.A." is the incentive in about 75% of cases.

I heard this regarding W interviews- they do interview a lot of applicants as they want to involve the alums in the decision making process. (or atleast try to). Satisfy their ego so to speak?

I dont know if it makes sense but thought shall pass it along...

great post livehard. the numbers make a good case, and i have questions about your presentation as well as thoughts about why the results might look the way they are. i think a number of the points in my argument are still valid, but it appears as though it is difficult to generalize over a broad set of "top" schools. i have a feeling that several of the schools are affected by individual factors. anyway, i have been slammed at work this week vetting two investments, so i have not had time to post a well thought out response. i will try to come up with something this week, time permitting, but i wanted to make sure your post did not get buried without kudos from me. nice contribution.
