E without a doubt. Not only is it structurally the most sound but it fixes the errors mentioned above.

Both A and E are correct, but E is better than A as the modifier is closer.

Concision is the reason why E is better than A. Grammatically and meaning wise both are fine.

A and E both are correct.

But A is out because " in the month of September" is redundant.

Hence E remains.

Hi
I guess you are missing a point here . Pls refer to hemant's explanantion given above ..A means Africa has abundant resources only in the month of september and not otherwise ...

E clearly defines africa as a land of abundant resources...

Wats wrong in D?

the construction seems awkward when compared to E.

to me, D almost sounded like "they went in a plane to africa ..." or "they went in a car to africa ... "

A must be wrong because of 'in the month'... If I remove the portion between commas and said 'the went to Africa in september' it sounds fine.. What is explanation that Africa only has resources n September? I dont understand that...

Hi,

Can you be more specific why D implies "Africa has resources in September".

I can see this implication for option A and B but not necessarily for option D.

Thanks,

They went to Africa, a continent with abundant resources, in the month of September.

(A) They went to Africa, a continent with abundant resources, in the month of September.
(B) They went to Africa a continent with abundant resources in September.
(C) They had gone to Africa in the month of September, which is a continent with abundant resources.
(D) They went in September to Africa, a continent with abundant resources.
(E) In September, they went to Africa, a continent with abundant resources.

In response to the OE, no the original sentence does not mean that Africa has abundant resources in September. That would have been the case if there was no comma after resources. Since there is a comma, 'a continent with abundant resources' is a noun modifier modifying Africa, and it terminates before the comma.

Option E is also correct as pointed out by others. In my experience with the real GMAT, such questions never appear.
