Had my interview this morning and then missed a call from a blocked number later in the afternoon. Logically I knew it wasn't Columbia, but it still made my heart jump a little. Congrats to everyone who got in so far this week!

I prob wont have mine for another week due to scheduling.... I guess it just gives me more time to prepare...
I think from the number of interviews we've collectively gone through on this forum, my 2 suggestions would be to be yourself and to OWN your answers to "why MBA, why now, why Columbia".
Just remember to take a deep breath every now and then, and you'll do fine
Eh I'm skeptical many calls will come today. They have an event later this evening that they will likely prep for... could be wrong though!
In addition to what fudge said... just also make sure you have a plan b. Columbia is very adamant on that... plan b for if you don't get into columbia and a plan b for graduation if your "goal" doesn't pan out. The wording may be a little different but it's the same q... consider -> what happens if the economy tightens up and the job market is poor when you graduate? Aka.. wtf is your plan b
Otherwise... MDF... I imagine you and the others got the note today with status has changed and the admission offer... 2 weeks to cough up our 6K deposit... ya buddy... there goes my some of my ferrari fund

For those of you who have interviewed already, did you feel like your interviewer challenged you at all when you were answering those 2 questions? Or did you feel like it was pretty smooth sailing? I feel like I got a bit of the former, but couldn't tell if he was hesitant about me, or trying to play devil's advocate a bit to see how I would respond. I stuck to my guns though and tried my hardest to "own" my answers and just explain them further, which seemed to go over fine.
so back to the essay 3 questions, what do you guys think of those who arent focusing on entrepreneurship but chose to answer the entrepreneurship question? do you think that it may be seen in a negative light at all since it may seem like a seperate goal from what you talk about wanting to do? i have a great quasi non profit idea that i talked about that ive wanted to pursue (and it ties in a lot with my strong mentoring background although i didnt make that direct tie, 250 words ;x lol) but definitely not focusing on that as my reason for MBA.
and what if they just straight out think your idea is failed to work but someone else may think its a good idea? lol
Cunit, yes I got status change and it shows admitted.
In response to the interview... it went smooth. Listen, these people don't sit there and think of ways to trick us or catch us up... they genuinely are there to learn about you and if Columbia is a good fit. While they may not be "cheering" for you... they aren't rooting against you. Be yourself but dot your I's and cross your T's. Know why you need an mba... why you want to go to Columbia. Be realistic, be yourself, and if you made it that far... realize you're among the only 27% that gets an interview so clearly there was something they liked about you. I have to stress the plan b though since no real M7 b-school student should not have a plan b... shows you're not really ready in my opinion.
There are no wrong answers... if you have a business idea that you think is unique and wacky but could be profitable (whether you pursue or someone else did)... then write it down. They are just trying to get a feel for you. Essay 3 isn't really a why mba or anything formal. Look at the three options. The campaign speech? They're trying to learn about you and get a feel for your personality and ability to persuade. The interview someone? Again, shows a bit about you... who you pick is fairly indicative of you and what you're interested in. The business idea demonstrates what's in your head... what do you think about or how do you think about things. This essay is all about you... the content is just how you get from point a to point b.. does that help?
I wrote option b - campaign speech. It was the easiest way for me to reiterate my leadership ability and demonstrate my affinity for ethics in business.
pedro tough luck. Best of luck for your remaining apps.

Thanks mate. I will be submitting Wharton and Sloan for sure for R1 - Wharton's app is done so I just need to submit. Stern's late deadline allows for me to do that one later and still get it submitted for R1 as well. Looking into the timelines for Yale right now.

Sorry, wasn't clear with my question. When did you submit your CBS app?

Submitted: 8/4 (not complete for a few days due to an outstanding reco) Invite to interview: 8/25 Interview: 9/6 Complete: 9/9
is there any way to check if your application for the J term has been dinged w/o an interview? I submitted my app on 9/6, however, for 3 days the status remained on "being printed and prepared for review". now it says "under review". and given the timelines of the other users, i'm getting a little fidgety.
my profile: Gmat: 700 work ex: 4.5 years ( 2 in family business ) GPA: 3.6 ( Information Technology and Engg )
harsh, you're fine.. the thing is they are going to be getting quite the influx of applications over these next few weeks so your timeline will vary drastically from those of us who had submitted (ED or J-Term) 4-8 weeks ago.
