Don't know about exceptional but I thought my goals were clear, essays were strong, drew effectively on my work and extra-curricular experiences, and I made a sound case for why I wanted to go to and would fit well in Columbia. However, this will probably be true of other applicants as well. If I were to guess, I would say the application going complete really quickly can often just be about luck, if the adcoms are focused on it on a particular day etc.

Nope, haven't heard anything yet . If I don't hear anything by 5 I was probably put in the ding pile and status will update online same day as everyone else. here's my data point: submit 7/29, complete 8/23.
