If you got an invite today, can you guys post if you applied early (weeks or days in advance) or late (same day of deadline), I just want to think that my app is at the bottom of the stack and has not been read yet... thanks! and congrats to all who received an invitation to interview.

Congrtulations to everyone who got an interview invitation today!

I'll be thinking positive thoughts for all of you and hopefully I will be fortunate enough to receive one on one of the next two Wednesdays.

When did you submit your app? I submitted mine 5 days early and haven't received an invite.

It is def. interesting to try to imagine why some people get interviews earlier than others...

I can't help but think the more traditional folks that don't need an in-depht analysis get called first. Simply because they take these kids every year...

The less traditional probably needs one or two more rounds of review.

It's the only logic that makes sense to me.

With that said, if you didn't get an invite today, it probably means some of the adcom aren't as sure about your application.

Oh well. Here is to hoping it's more like 60% today and 20/20 on the next 2 weds. 75/25 is too depressing.

Congrats to everyone who got invited!!!

I submitted around 10am EST on the day of, so I'm not sure that has a correlation. I do come from a more "traditional" background, for what it's worth. That being said, I wouldn't lose hope as I know more than a handful of people who received invites last year in the 2nd or 3rd wave and are now at HBS. Good luck!

Hey guys - I know it's a bit of a downer not to get an invite today but my gut feeling is that there is no rhyme or reason to who got it today (not based on geography, stats, etc.) I think it might simply be the amount of time they've had to process/review the number of applications thus far.

Here is my rationale...

They started reviewing on Oct 3 - which was 3.5 weeks ago; so having 3.5 weeks to today; then another week till Nov 2, and another week till Nov 9; it makes logical sense that in this 5.5 week period, around 70% of the reviews would have been done by this point and hence around 70% of the invites should have gone out. By next week, another week of reviews will have gone by so they can send out another 10-15%.

If they have already reviewed everyone, they might as well just send it all today.

that is my guess!

I applied to Harvard even though it was a long shot given my background and statistics. I have to say, I am disappointed about not getting an invite. I think just getting a Harvard interview invite would give me confidence that I will get into a top business school and would make me feel more secure about the rest of the admissions process as I wait to hear back from other schools. I have to give it to Dee for at least being open about the process. Otherwise, I would be refreshing my emails on my iphone every 2-3 minutes.

I will be waiting to hear on November 2 (hopefully) or November 9...

Good luck to everyone that got an interview!!!

sad day yesterday for me :(.

lath2011 has a point.

Though no Indians on this or BTG forum got an invite, only a handful of Indians (or Asians) are on this forum and this number may not be representative of the entire Indian applicant pool.

Good luck to those who got invites !!

Yes, but I think the members on this forum represent a pretty strong pool; hence, that fact that no Indians received invites does say something. Of course, at some level, I am looking for something to hold on to :).

The next 1-14 days are going to be ultra-traumatic: what with all the interview invites due to come out and being glued to the screen everyday with hope. This whole process is the ultimate test of patience and an exercise in uncertainty.

Have they sent invites only to people at or near hub cities? Then there is still a decent chance for us Indians.

shekmba, I agree that the Indian members on this forum are strong applicants. Quite surprising that not a single one of us got an invite. Well atleast it is making me stay hopeful for the next 2 weeks. But the wait is torturous.

BTW does anyone have an insight whether HBS finds applicants who are entrepreneurs or from business background interesting. Sandy calls the entrepreneurs as oddballs and feels they very rarely get a chance at HBS.

Yikes, then I am a goner. I am even more of an oddball with my weirdass profile. However, I believe Wharton favours candidates with business backgrounds and especially those from family businesses.

Also, I remember reading that HBS actually respects entrepreneurs; although, that respect need not necessarily translate into an admit.

Even I am in the same boat as I am an entrepreneur. Well until and unless you are an entrepreneur who has raised million of $ in funding, I don't think HBS gives too much attention.

Lets see what the next two Wednesdays have in store for us.

it does seem to me that most of the people who got interview invites have a more traditional background?

are there any here who have a nontraditional background or career goals?

and can anyone who received invite tell us if your application status changed when you logged in?

Last year one of my entrepreneur friend (Indian) got into HBS. He did not have a million dollar startup, but a low key startup.

Also looking at the student profiles on HBS website, it seems that HBS favors those with a family business, but the family business of those admitted is generally big (in $$)
