Question

I bombed miserably on test day, got a 500, then today, I get the e-mail to log in and get my official score. I got a 6.0 on the Analytical writing section. How does this help me, if at all?

I think he just means that the AWA doesn't really make a difference unless it's a really low score, in which case it will hurt you.

The AWA score either hurts your application or does nothing for it. Focus on your test score instead. If you truly feel that you had an off day or that the score doesn't represent your actual skill level, then I suggest a retake. The first thing to do, though, is take some time off.

I was posting while on a conf call this morning. That's what I meant - AWA can be a red flag (will hurt your chances) but won't help if you do stellar.
