I agree with Mahtab. You absolutely cannot walk into the GMAT without having taken any practice tests. You WILL score around where your practice tests indicate you will, give or take 50 points.

That means that if you want 700+ and you are not scoring 700+ on any of your practice tests, you should reschedule your test. I would go one step further and say that you should not take the test until you are CONSISTENTLY scoring where you want to on good CATs like GMATPrep and MGMAT. I have seen too many examples on this board of people being disappointed by GMAT scores after either a) scoring around the same range on their practice tests or b) not taking any tests at all.

Thank you so much Mahtab and gmatkoopa for your inputs. I will start taking the tests as you have prescribed and I will post the outcome for further inputs. I am most grateful for your support and time.

I have been studying for the GMAT for over three months now, I took a month from work to enable me prep well for the test. I prepped both day and night.I would say that I have some of the best materials. Have MGMAT 8 Strategy, OG 12 etc.etc.......And I have done lots of practise though never tried any adaptive tests.

I had a robust strategy and I was so confident that I was going to make 700+. But after today I think that something might have gone terribly wrong.I think I focused a lot more on solving the "difficult" questions at the expense of the not so "difficult" ones. I had no idea on how to solve my first few quant questions, even tough I guessed intuitively I think that I got them wrong and that spelled doom for me. Guys, please take a cue from my experience. It is the 'easy" questions that will bring in the tough ones. I am not too strong at SC. I need advice as to how to ace the section and the whole test to 700+.

Please I need to go to school next year by all means and I intend to take the test again on 10th October,11. So I have exactly two months.

Please guys how best can you help me or advice me to help myself. I need a 700+

Congratulations to all those who made their target scores,I am proud of you.

Thank you

Maybe you might benefit from enrolling in GMAT class -- not sure where you live but you maybe you can check out Kaplan, Manhattan or one of the major prep companies. Even an online course might really help you. I say this because you are aiming at a score above 700 -- and a test prep course can put you on track with a solid study plan, help identify your weak areas, refine your strategies and provide you with good feedback. Plus -- it can also help take a bit of pressure off you.

The good news is that there are lots of people who have improved their scores significantly the second time around.

I would also suggest a couple of more things --- try to get your score up around the 550-600 range first -- (that is the average GMAT score). Once you are consistently scoring in that range -- you can fine tune your skills, and further improve and head toward 700. It's much easier when you set clear benchmarks and small targets -- it keeps you from feeling overwhelmed and you remain motivated.

There are also some inspiring stories on this board -- of folks who have gone from a low score to an outstanding score -- read those stories and get your juices flowing.

It can be done!

Good luck..

Hello guys, thank you so much for your support. I never imagined that I could get so much support from you guys most especially from Mahtab, DevilDoggNC and gmatkoopa. I look forward to more support. I am based in Ghana, off the coast of West Africa.Beautiful Country.

Well, Mahtab with reference to your advice, I took the GMATPrep test about an hour ago and scored miserable 410(Q20,V26). I guess it is a true reflection of my performance level/ability on the real test. After a careful review of both sections, these are the areas that I think I am weak at:

QUANTITATIVE:
Roots/Powers, Arithmetic Sequence, Conversions, Geometry,Probability,Business Maths,Distance Problems, equation of a line, coordinate goemetry.
I scored on most of the Data Sufficiency questions, however I cant tell of their level of difficulty.

VERBAL:
On the verbal section, I think the major problem was RC(found it very difficult to understand two passages) and CR( found complete the sentence,....."except" assumption questions challenging. SC is not so much of a problem for me( need help with modifiers).

Once again, I called on you guys to come to my rescue by advising me on the way forward.Like DevilDoggNC advised I would like to progressively increase my scores from the current low of 430 to about 650 then subsequently join the 700 club. The challenge for me is whether I can make it within two and a half months.

I am at your mercy guys, Thank you
