I think it is basically a Idioms Question. I am confused between C and D.

Not an idiom question but a vocabulary question. :lol: Which is why I dont think this is a GMAT styled question.

why not E? "Anyone" ... is not preferrable?

Hey faltan, Anyone is singular and themselves are plural. Subject-Verb error.
Hence it should be people (Plural) and themselves (plural)
