Question

Hi Guys,

I took GMAT yesterday and scored 760 (Q-50,V-42). Just wanted to thank GMAT Club and all the members for excellent information and threads. I only used GMAC official guide 12th edition and threads from GMAT club for the exam preparation.

Well done! the OG12 and obviously the new OG13 are the most important book you can own. But most of us mortals have to buy other books to learn how to do all those practice problems! Haha, but obviously, if you are as dedicated as yourself, the GMAT Club has all the FREE information you could ever need. Great score! I'm actually trying to do the same thing your doing, so it's reassuring to hear about your positive results. I haven't taken the GMAT yet but I have the official guide and i'm gathering up as many resources as I can from this site to see how far it can take me on my first go around. After that, if I need more work I'll probably bite the bullet and put in the expenses for other prep material.

Congratulations on the impressive score! While there is a large amount of resources on this website, it's still quite impressive that you were able to perform so well with only those and the OG 12.

Can you throw some light on your preparation time and the way you used GMAC official guide and the forum?

What were your mock scores?

Was it your first attempt btw?

Regarding my preparation details.

I prepared for approximately a month and half. Mostly a couple of hours every day on week days (since I work full time) and a little more on weekends.

I am an engineer by profession so quant was never that big an issue for me. Even then I went through each and every question of OG 12 at least twice. Then I went through most of the tough ones posted on GMAT Club forums.

My biggest issue/concern was SC portion of verbal. So spent most of my time working on that. Once again went through each and every question of OG 12 at least 2-3 times. Moreover I went through each and every thread in the SC section of GMAT club and I have to say that it was quite a learning experience. Excellent questions and even better explanations/discussions. Must for everyone preparing for GMAT.

I took only two practice tests, the ones provided by GMAC.
Took first test two weeks before the exam (720-Q49,V39). But I got most of the SC questions wrong.
Took second test one week before the exam (750-Q50,V41). SC improved but confidence was still lacking.
