E is the answer because:

A) seems two different things

B) semems that the price tripled due to the higher cost

C) with doesnt have sense

D) same as A

E) is logic and fluent

B tripled because the higher cost brought - no cause and effect involved; even so tripling was not the effect of the inefficiency; it must be otherwise.
C. tripled with the higher cost bringing ---1. 'With' denotes a physical accompaniment.
2. Looks as if tripling were the effect of the inefficiency of internal combustion

Answer E looks much better then other ones, BUT comma between two clauses (price tripled, and cost brought) is missed.
("tripled, and the higher cost brought").

Completely agree with explanations. I'd like to add. The first sentence is run on sentence - two independented clauses witout FUNBOYS

"had brought" in A breaks the chronology of events.
"because" in B terribly changes the meaning.
"bringing" in C breaks the parallelism.
The comma after "tripled" in D leads to an incomplete construction.
E is the best choice here.

Considering the sentence, “when the price of gasoline tripled” does it make more sense to go with Option “D” instead of “E”. Can any of the experts clarify? Thanks!

B says that highlighting the problem caused the price rise. That is illogical, so B is wrong.
A and D seem to be two independent clauses. I think this makes them run on sentences, which are usually bas choices
I am confused between C and E but am going to go with E as ‘with’ seems to be a bit awkward.

Option C seems to present that cost of diesel tripled along with higher cost bringing the problem....which is illogical
Sentence original seems to convey that as fuel price tripled , new problem of fuel efficiency came to light

Therefore C is wrong

B tripled because the higher cost brought
The meaning isn't right therefore out

C. tripled with the higher cost bringing
The intended meaning isn't conveyed

D. tripled, the higher cost brought
even though it feels so right however E conveys the right meaning i couldn't find any definitive flaws to eleminate

E. tripled and the higher cost brought
The meaning is perfect therefore our option

Therefore IMO E
