Congratulations on the great score! You deserve bonus points for not panicking in December--far too many people panic and take the test before they're really ready. Nice work, sir.

Just some food for thought: you'll still have time to submit applications to Columbia (rolling admissions) and Cornell (January 30) if those programs are appealing at all. I'm guessing that you already discarded them for one reason or another, but figured that it might be worth mentioning that their deadlines are friendly to late GMAT-takers.

Congratulations again, and good luck with your applications!

What were your scores in the other mgmat tests ? I have taken two and have gotten 45 and 46 on their quant section..Not happy with my performance at all.

In my last 2 mgmat cats, i have not been able to go past 44 in Q. However, I got a 47 on GmatPrep Q today. This explains the difference.

Congrats on the great score. I had a question regarding the 125 question set at the end of the sc grail 3rd edition...did you those questions topicwise or did you do them sequentially ?

Do you happen to know exactly how many more questions you got wrong on the mgmat mock, if any?

I had also stagnated in verbal and i think what worked for me is that i really went through those topics again from which i would get most questions wrong in a practice test.. When you go through the same concept again, you are able to internalize it better

GMATNinja,

Thought Columbia spots are first to get occupied since they are rolling admission. Some even suggest not applying to Columbia in R2.

Yeah columbia has an early decision round..That means that if you get an admit in that round, you will have to foresake any other admit and will have to necessarily attend Columbia MBA

There's a grain of truth to the idea that Columbia fills its spots earlier than other programs, but I think it's going way too far to say that you shouldn't apply to Columbia during their equivalent of round 2.

Columbia's "binding" early decision program is basically a yield management tool for them. An overwhelming majority of early decision admits will ultimately choose to attend Columbia, partly because they've agreed to pay a non-refundable $6000 deposit if they're accepted. Because of the early decision round, isn't a surprise that Columbia's yield (the percentage of accepted students who choose to attend Columbia) is a little bit higher than other schools in its weight class: https://poetsandquants.com/2012/01/17/th ... n-rates/2/

But I don't think that Columbia's admissions standards are all that different from those of other programs. Just like any other MBA program, Columbia does its absolute best to attract the most brilliant MBA students it can possibly find. The adcom isn't going to admit crappy students just because they applied early decision, and they aren't going to reject strong applicants in January. Sure, early decision gives you a slight advantage if you're otherwise a borderline candidate, but Columbia isn't completely overstuffing its class in the fall, only to be left with no spots in January.

If you're a strong candidate, you'll still have a perfectly good shot at Columbia if you apply with the rest of the early January herd. It could be true that applying toward the end of January (several weeks after other b-schools' round 2 deadlines) hurts your chances somewhat, but even Columbia accepts a handful of students in March and April every year. So it's not all that different than anywhere else: if you're awesome, you'll get in during Columbia's rough equivalent of round 2. And if you're not awesome, you still won't get in during the early decision round. :|

Very insightful.. What you said makes sense- if you are not awesome, you still won't get in during the early decision round..

hi vikinggmat
congrats on the great score. .

How was IR in comparison to the one in Manhattan CATs?

I find IR very time consuming on Manhattan CATs and I have never been able to complete the section in these tests. Couldn't go beyond the score of 1.7 so far..

Is IR really tough on teh gmat or is it manageable?
